Czech scientists from the Brno's Mendel University and the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) have discovered a cheap and fast way to diagnose the flu.
The test uses filter paper with two quantum dots which are some kind of artificially produced antiparticles along with an ultra-violet pocket light.
The scientists have applied for a patent and the university is looking for a partner to launch the test in to the market. The testing kit could be sold in pharmacies or supermarkets. People could test themselves at home and have the results in a matter of minutes.
The next step would be to create a test that can precisely identify a particular type of flu virus.
