2009 New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve was spent in Berlin. We started off at this great Indian restaurant on Oranienburger Straße. Later, we walked over to the front of the Reichstag which was the best spot for midnight.

We got to see the fireworks from all over the city. It was impressive and the shows went on for at least 30 minutes. But the trash left behind on all of the white snow looked horrible. However, the city had people out the next day cleaning everything up.

I heard that the Czechs in Brno went crazy with the fireworks too. I remember having fireworks as a kid in California. But now it's illegal to buy them in California (or Atlanta). So it's odd seeing people here with them. Of course, it was also odd for me to walk down the street with an open bottle of champagne without a problem. You just can't do that in the U.S.

The one thing I did miss was Kathy Griffin & Anderson Cooper live from Time Square.
