Soviet soldiers in 1968 |
The invasion was carried out by the Soviet Union, East Germany, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria. Romania was the only Warsaw Pact country not to participate.
Yesterday, someone painted the Sofia Soviet WWII memorial pink. "Bulgaria apologizes" was painted in both Bulgarian and Czech.
Update: Romania wasn't the only Warsaw Pact country not to participate. Albania left the Warsaw Pact shortly after the invasion. East Germany only provided minor support because it was too close to the 30th anniversary of Nazi Germany annexing the Sudetenland.
