At Komenského náměstí (Komensky Square) you will find the Red Church, the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts and part of Masaryk University.
The Janáček Academy of Performing Arts was founded in 1947. But the building was constructed in 1860-1862.
Directly across the street from the performing arts academy is part of Masaryk University.
Masarykova Univerzita is named after Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk who was the founder and first president of Czechoslovakia, following World War I.
All of my pictures of Komenského náměstí have been updated on Flickr.

Isn't it funny how in the Czech Republic the First Republic period feels very close to the present day, and in America, that period of time seems so far away.
