I've received a few Czech Christmas cards and they all have "PF" on them. Czechs use the abbreviation "PF" for Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. I'm sure that this is used in
Slovakia also.
The "PF" stands for "pour féliciter", in French. I've never seen this phrase anywhere else.
The French don't even use it.
From what I understand, the phrase was used by diplomats back in the 17th & 18th centuries when French was the lingua franca in Europe. Somehow the PF has survived.
Veselé Vánoce a šťastný nový rok! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
